Make sure you verify this with your golf buddy, but if this is the case, you’ve just found out the reason why you’re hitting the ball fat.

This issue can quickly be fixed by being aware of your lower body as you swing and making sure your hips twist instead of slide. Focus on beginning the downswing by using the arms. If you do this correctly, your hips will follow in a natural manner.

Another useful tip is to overemphasize keeping your leading shoulder down, hopefully fixing the mis-balance between shoulders. Practice a few shots using this technique and you should see the fat melt away.

On the downswing always mentally repeat to yourself to keep your forward shoulder “down”, get into the habit of doing this each time you swing. This will help your hips to avoid sliding and instead uncoil the way they are meant to.
