If you have picked up a golf magazine, bought a book, downloaded a course, or watched some instructional video’s, the you might be aware that there is an abundance of information about the stance, proper grip, takeaway, choosing irons, follow through, and so on.
But where are the golf downswing tips hiding? Often they’re nowhere to be seen and this is why so many people have trouble with this area of their game.
If you are sick of hitting the ball short and never being able to deliver any distance from your stroke, focusing on correcting the downswing can help dramatically! One important tip that you should definitely pay attention to is making sure the transition from the top part of your backswing to the start of your downswing is smooth and fluid.
At the top of the backswing, many golfers have a bad habit of jerking the club, or much worse, they involve their hands too much in the motion and cause a dreaded hook or slice shot. This should be avoided at all costs!
If you have fallen victim to either one of these two mistakes, too much hand involvement or jerking, I am sure you are looking for a quick fix to rectify this. Allow me to give you one! As you reach the top of your backswing, before you start moving forward from this position, pause for a split second before continuing.
Then allow your hips to start off the movement, then the arms, your hands, shoulders and your body. Each movement through this chain of body parts should be smooth and fluid. Not only will this help with distance, your accuracy will improve and so to will your overall control.

To generate as much power as you can, while remaining accurate, it’s important to position your hands so that they’re ahead of the club head on impact. If you’re hands fail to do this and instead trail behind the club head as it strikes the ball, the energy you generated from your trunk will dissipated. Rule: never ever allow your hands to start the downswing movement!
And the last of these golf downswing tips, which I will dig deep into the treasure chest and expose is acceleration. As you start the downswing, the club head needs to rapidly quicken in speed, so that when it makes impact it’s moving lightening fast. This takes some practice to do successfully but be aware of the club head during the downswing and focus on following through in a smooth manner.
Golf downswing tips may not make it to the front page of any top golf magazine but mastering this area which many golfers ignore, will definitely give you an edge. The more areas you focus on and improve, while others skip over it, the better golfer you will become!
