Tip One – Check Your Address Position.
There can be numerous reasons why you are hitting a slice shot, but one of the most common is problems at the address position. More specifically, the positioning of your left foot. It must be directly under the shoulder, otherwise it will result in the ball doing what you don’t want it to do, fly off to the right.
Another tip to help you at address include making sure you are square to the target. Your feet, hips, and shoulders must be in line with your target. This is a basic fundamental element but many people falter at address so always take a few seconds to make sure you are square.
Tip Two – Adjust Your Grip.
If you want to hit the ball straight, with distance and precision, then your going to need adjust your grip to make sure it doesn’t contribute to those nasty slices. New golfers have a bad habit of choking the club and holding it too tightly. This causes a build up of tension in the arms and can be responsible for opening the clubhead on impact. The end result is the ball flying off to the right…not good!
A fine balance needs to be struck with the tightness of your grip. Too loose and it can also cause a slice. The best remedy is a neutral grip that will help the face of the club to open as you make impact, resulting in a straight shot towards the target.
A quick trick to make sure you are using the correct grip strength is to look down at your hands and pay attention to your knuckles. When you have the optimum grip position, you should be able to see two or even three knuckles of your left hand. Warning signs should go off if you don’t see any knuckles.
Adjust your hands and position them so that when you look down your knuckles will come into view. If you have been using an improper grip for some time, it may seem funny with this new grip but after you hit a few shots you may be surprised how natural it feels. Tip Three – Swinging Tempo.
When it comes to correcting a slice, the tempo in which you swing is absolutely essential, anybody who tells you different should not be listened to. The hands should not be your primary way to generate power during the swing. If you do this, you’re missing out on a major source of force.
Your whole body needs to be involved in the movement to help send the ball into the distance. Particularly at the top of your backswing you need to make certain your arms don’t “steal the show” and you forget about the rest of your body. This will almost always lead to the clubface being open.

Instead, your swing should be performed in a smooth, flowing, and relaxed manner, from the beginning to the end. The whole motion should be free of jerks, especially at the top of your backswing, this is where your hips should be involved as the catalyst of power for the downswing, then the rest of your body will follow.
Tip Four – The Divot.
One forgotten tip to correcting the slice is to pay attention to your divot. After a shot examine the divot and see where it has fallen. If it’s too far towards the right, this can be an indication that you may need to go back and examine the tips revealed in this article.
